Job Summary
The Behavior Clinician provides behavior management (BMAN) services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Behavioral supports are an array of services designed to support individuals who are experiencing or are likely to experience challenges accessing, and actively participating in the community as a result of behavioral, social, or emotional challenges. Behavioral support services are intended to empower individuals and families by leveraging their strengths and unique abilities to achieve self-determination, interdependence, productivity, integration, and inclusion in all facets of community life, across all environments, and across the lifespan.
Educational Requirements
Level 2 Clinicians must have a master’s degree in one of the following:
- Clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology or another applied health service area of psychology.
- Special education;
- Social work;
- Counseling;
OR
- Be a licensed marriage and family therapist licensed under IC 25-23.6;
- Be a licensed clinical social worker under IC 25-23.6;
- Be a licensed mental health counselor;
OR
- Have a master’s degree in a human service field and be able to demonstrate to the BDDS behavior management committee that the individual has either the coursework in or five (5) years experience in devising, implementing and monitoring behavior support plans.
- Note: The state may accept other degrees, however, the employee will need to make an appeal to the DDRS, Director of Provider Relations.
Major Duties
The major duties of the Behavior Clinician include, but are not limited to:
- Developing a functional behavioral assessment and behavioral support plan for the individuals being served;
- Provide training to individuals being served;
- Provide staff training to staff/family members working with individuals being served;
- Develop reports to document progress on at least a quarterly basis;
- Monitor psychotropic medications;
- Attend Individualized Support Team (IST) meetings regarding the individuals being served, and act as part of an IST where the needs of the consumer come first.
Primary Responsibilities
Behavior Clinicians must fulfill the duties required of the position and adhere to the guidelines set forth in the policy and procedures manual. In addition, Behavior Clinicians must obtain ten (10) continuing education hours annually related to the practice and behavioral support from a Category 1 sponsor as provided in IAC 1.1-15; or as provided by the BDDS’ behavioral support curriculum list.
Supervision
Rhyme & Reason will monitor the work of Behavior Clinicians, provide training, and facilitate the evaluations of Behavior Clinicians.
